Vinyasa yoga

The term vinyasa means “to place with intention” and is a style of yoga which focuses on aligning movement with the breath. These classes will be more creative and involve a flowing sequence of poses. I will often focus the class around a peak pose, a particular theme or aspect of the yoga philosophy. You can expect a more physically dynamic class with strength building flows; as well as slower flows with a greater emphasis on mobility and flexibility. Open to students of all levels.

hAtha yoga

Hatha primarily means “force” or “effort” - which is a term associated with the physical aspect of yoga. In these classes you can expect a much slower pace with longer holds, developing a deep balance of strength and flexibility as well as effort and surrender. You will learn techniques including Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathwork) and Meditation to achieve control and mastery of the body, mind and spirit. Open to students of all levels.

ashtanga vinyasa

The Sanskrit word Ashtanga translates as “Eight-limbs”, which refers to the Eight-Limbs of Yoga as outlined by Patanjali in the ancient Yoga Sutras. Ashtanga Vinyasa is a traditional practice and a more dynamic style of yoga. The “Primary Series” is a set sequence, which students learn under the personalised guidance of a teacher, eventually leading to a traditional Mysore style and self-practice. We practice with a tri-focus “tristana” - using breath, bandha and drsti to go deeper within and access the last 4 limbs. Previous experience is beneficial when taking this class.

aerial yoga

This is a powerful & liberating style of yoga. You will flow through a series of yoga poses using the assistance of the hammock; flowing on the ground, in suspension & upside down! Classes can feel a lot like playtime - dissolving the idea that yoga should be “serious”. The benefits are endless: it increases muscular strength & flexibility; is particularly beneficial for the decompression of the intervertebral discs within the spine, enabling more efficient functioning of the nerves. It also creates kinesthetic proprioceptive awareness (requiring a deep level of presence), improves circulation & lymphatic movement within the body - which is wonderfully detoxifying! Open to students of all levels.

SUP (stand up paddle-board) YOGA

A fun, playful - & often challenging - style of yoga, that always brings a huge smile to your face! Instantly connecting you to the present moment (mostly by concentrating on not falling in!) which at the same time builds balance, core strength & stability. The focus is around the centre point of gravity; making steady, standing postures all of a sudden appear extremely challenging! Usually starting with poses that are quite low to the board, we will eventually build up to more balance focused postures. It is obligatory to fall in - we don’t like to take ourselves too seriously - so be prepared to get wet! Open to students of all levels.
